Galleon Swimming Procedures - from Monday 31st August 2020
(Letter to Galleon Members from Ian McDonald, edited to include Swimming procedures only).
Thankfully, with restrictions being lifted and school returning, we are able to reopen the Club, which is great news for all of us. Thank you for all the kind comments and positive feedback we have received and for your continued patience over the last few months.
The Club will reopen on Monday 31 August at 5.30pm.
We are delighted to welcome back our members, but as you would expect re-opening is not as simple as we would have hoped. Under the current guidelines this will not be a return to what you know as normal and how we operate needs to be vastly different. We have made changes to our processes to ensure that everyone feels safe and protected whilst in the Centre and the following outlines those measures. Please read these carefully.
Entry and Exit
There will be a one way system in operation at the main doors to the Centre for Sport. Please ensure you follow the signage.
Please use the hand sanitiser provided on both entering and exiting the building.
Entry to the building will only be permitted 5 minutes prior to your allocated booking time. Please wait outside the club, ensuring that you follow social distancing guidelines at all times, until 5 minutes before your activity is due to commence.
We would like to request that all users of the Centre wear a face covering when entering and exiting the premises. These can be removed once you reach your chosen activity area.
Due to new campus security measures, members should only access the Centre via the main senior school entrance at all times.
All users should come ready to participate in their chosen activity. Access to changing rooms will not be permitted for gym or class users. Swimmers will only have access to the changing rooms after their swim to towel dry and change prior to leaving.
On arrival you will see the 2m distancing signage on the floor. Please ensure you stay 2m apart at all times, not just in Reception, but in all areas of the Centre.
The Reception area has protective screens, for your safety and that of our staff. Please ensure you stand in front of these screens when talking to staff members.
To comply with NHS test and trace, we will be confirming we have your correct details at check in.
We are unable to accept membership cards to check you in. Instead, we will check off your name on our booking sheets.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept cash. Please make all payments by card.
Pool bookings will check in at the main reception desk.
There will be no lockers available for use so please do not bring valuables into the Galleon which you cannot keep on you in person.
Changing Rooms (Poolside)
The normal poolside changing rooms will be in operation for pool users but will only be available when exiting the poolside. Showers will not be available for use in this area.
The swimming pool will operate on a booking system. This will take the form of the following;
30 minute time slots in mornings Monday to Friday (max 3 per week).
Bookings available: 7am, 7.30am
45 minute time slots Monday-Friday evenings (1 per evening)
Bookings available 6.30pm, 7.15pm, 8.00pm, 8.45pm
1 hour time slots Saturday & Sunday (1 per day)
Bookings available 9am, 10.15am, 11.30am, 12.45pm, 2pm, 3.15pm
(Times will change at October break when swimming lessons resume)
1 person per lane, unless other swimmer(s) are from the same household
We will operate a “beach ready” system, whereby you must arrive with your swimwear on underneath your normal clothes and change on the poolside.
You will be provided with a box to keep your possessions safe and dry on poolside.
When you are finished you will exit the pool into the changing rooms.
You will have a 15 minutes window to towel dry and leave the changing room.
Showers will not be available for use.
The Centre for Sport team will clean surfaces in the changing room between each session.
Swimmers must bring their own swimming aids as these will not be available on poolside.
For the initial period, guests will not be permitted access to the Centre to allow us to offer as much access as possible to our members.
Bookings can be made from 7am on Monday 31 August
Bookings can be made 7 days in advance.
Bookings can be made via the telephone on 0131 446 6066 or in the club after your session as you leave the building.
One person / household per booking. You cannot call on behalf of a friend(s) and book multiple spaces.
If you have made a booking and do not show without providing notification to the club, your booking privileges will be removed for one week following the second no show.
Test and Trace
We will be supporting NHS Scotland’s Test and Trace Scheme and will be monitoring those coming into the Centre. Your contact details and your arrival and departure time will be logged and kept securely. These will be destroyed after 21 days. If requested by Test and Trace staff we will pass on this information.
As per all guidance at present, please do not attempt to come to the Galleon if you are feeling unwell or displaying any Covid-19 symptoms.
We will continue to monitor these steps along with all government and governing body advice as we progress.
We know this is a lot to absorb, but we have taken these measures to ensure our staff, members and instructors are kept as safe as possible whilst ensuring we are complying with the governing body guidelines. Our staff will be on hand to assist where required and we will keep you informed of any changes as we progress through this period.
Many thanks, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Centre from Monday 31 August.
